In line with the mandate of the Ministry to preserve and promote the cultural legacy, it offers structured access to the nation's heritage through an extensive network of museums, galleries, monuments, and cultural institutions. The Indian Museum in Kolkata, Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad, National Gallery of Modern Art, and (GSDS) Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti in New Delhi offer structured exhibitions, guided tours and visits, and interactive displays for public enrichment.
Beyond the museums, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under the aegis of the Ministry, safeguards over 3,600 protected monuments, forts, and temples that facilitate access to the architectural and spiritual legacy of the nation. Noteworthy mentions include sites such as the Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Maharashtra, the Hampi in Karnataka and the Sun Temple at Konark.The National Council of Science Museums, operating under the Ministry’s purview, also provides additional educational exhibits.
