Located near the gardens of the iconic Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort is a majestic 16th-century Mughal monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1983 under Criterion (iii). This red sandstone fortress in Agra District, Uttar Pradesh, stretches across 2.5 km and once housed the imperial city of the Mughal rulers. Within its mighty walls lie exquisite structures like Jahangir Palace, Khas Mahal, and the Diwan-i-Khas, along with two splendid mosques. Built by Emperor Akbar and expanded by Shah Jahan, the fort reflects the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Mughal India.
