150th Birth Anniversary of Birsa Munda

Inner Banner

Bhagwan Birsa Munda (1875–1900) was a revered tribal leader and freedom fighter who led the Munda Rebellion against British rule. His struggle for tribal rights and self-rule made him a symbol of resistance and empowerment for indigenous communities. In honor of his legacy, November 15 is celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas across India.

On November 15, 2024, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Bhagwan Birsa Munda in Jamui district, Bihar. A commemorative coin and postal stamp were released to mark this historic occasion. The year-long commemoration will continue until November 15, 2025, with various events highlighting his contributions to India’s tribal heritage and freedom movement.
