On 24th October 2024, India began a year-long celebration marking the 200th anniversary of Rani Channamma’s victory at Kittur, honouring her as one of the nation’s earliest freedom fighters.
The inaugural event in Kittur, Karnataka, saw the release of a commemorative coin, stamp, and a documentary titled "Rani of Kittur: The Flame Before 1857." Key publications highlighting her legacy were also launched.
Throughout the year, the Ministry of Culture will host cultural events, exhibitions, essay competitions, and lectures to honour her courageous stand against British rule in 1824, decades before the 1857 uprising.
