Samvidhan Hatya Diwas

Inner Banner

On June 25, 2024, India commenced a year-long observance of Samvidhan Hatya Diwas to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency—a period seen as a serious challenge to India’s Constitution and democracy. The inaugural event at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, featured leading jurists, historians, and former political prisoners.

Key highlights included the release of “Darkest Hour: India’s Constitutional Crisis (1975–77)”, a documentary “When Democracy Was Denied”, and exhibitions showcasing archival records and civil resistance.

Throughout the year, the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with civil society and academic institutions, will host seminars, lectures, and campaigns to raise awareness, especially among youth, about constitutional rights and democratic values.
