Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the Great Living Chola Temples represent the architectural and cultural zenith of the Chola dynasty. Located in Tamil Nadu, the site includes the Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, the Brihadisvara Temple at Gangaikondacholisvaram, and the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram. Built between the 11th and 12th centuries, these temples are remarkable for their towering vimanas, intricate sculptures, and advanced engineering. They highlight the Cholas' expertise in architecture, sculpture, painting, and bronze casting. These sacred structures continue to be vibrant centers of worship, embodying the living heritage of South Indian temple traditions.
