Jintu Gitartha (Assamese)

Jintu Thakuria, known by his pen name Jintu Gitartha, is an Assamese fiction writer who crafts powerful stories that give voice to the marginalized and ignored. Born in 1998 in Tihu, Assam, he moved to Guwahati for higher education, where he began writing about the alienation and psychological struggles of city dwellers. His work, which explores themes like gender identity, sexual exploitation, and moral policing, is known for its sensitivity and powerful narrative style. His short story collections, including Sabir Vram Vramar Sabi and Mon Mora Tora, have been widely acclaimed, with Mon Mora Tora receiving the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar in 2023.

Jintu’s writing has reached international audiences, with translations in English, Hindi, and Bodo, and features in the U.S.-based magazine Words Without Borders. He was also part of the Write Assam project, a collaboration between the British Council and Untold Narratives, and was honored with the Bhasa Gaurav Samman by the Assam government in 2021. Now an Assistant Professor at Handique Girls' College, Jintu continues to use his unique voice to bring attention to underrepresented communities and pressing social issues in Assam.
