Urmika Maibam
MANIPURI
Shrimati Urmika Maibam was born on 14 February 1985 in Imphal, Manipur. She received her training in Manipuri dance from Shrimati Irengbam Nalini Devi and Shrimati Darshana Jhaveri. She has also done postgraduation in Choreography from Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography under Shrimati Maya Rao and learnt Bharatanatyam from Shrimati Suparna Sai Venkatesh.
Shrimati Urmika Maibam is an A Grade artist of Prasar Bharti. She has performed extensively in India and abroad including Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Myanmar and New Zealand. She has many research articles to her credit like ‘Raas Leela – A Devotional Dance’, ‘Raas Leela – From Mandap to Proscenium Stage’ and has directed a regional Manipuri feature film titled Tamphamani. Shrimati Urmila Maibam is a faculty at The Department of Dance in Manipur University of Culture.
Shrimati Urmika Maibam is a recipient of Manipur State Kala Young Talent Award conferred by the Manipur State Kala Academy, Government of Manipur, Maisnam (O) Ibetombi Devi Memorial Gold Medal from School of Humanities of Manipur University and Shrimati Usha Devi Gold Medal from Department of Dance, Manipur University.
Shrimati Urmika Maibam is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2022 for her notable talent in the field of Manipuri dance.
