ASI Publishes Keezhadi Excavation Report in Line with Scientific Protocols

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has released the official excavation report for the Keezhadi site, located in the Vaigai River basin. The report covers the findings from the 2014–15 and 2015–16 excavation seasons and has been thoroughly vetted by eminent scholars. The publication follows the directive issued by the Hon’ble Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court dated 29th February 2024, ensuring transparency and adherence to established archaeological norms.

The Keezhadi excavations, initially undertaken by ASI and now continued by the Tamil Nadu State Archaeology Department, are significant in understanding the ancient urban settlement patterns of the region. ASI reaffirmed its commitment to global scientific standards in archaeology, ensuring that reports are peer-reviewed and findings are published with scholarly integrity. The release of the Keezhadi report marks a step forward in documenting and preserving India’s ancient cultural heritage.
