The Indian delegation, led by Union Culture Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, participated in the 10th BRICS Ministers of Culture Meeting held on 26 May 2025 in Brasília, Brazil. The meeting, under the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”, witnessed the adoption of a comprehensive declaration emphasising cultural cooperation among BRICS nations.

The declaration reaffirms the shared commitment to advancing cultural dialogue, preserving heritage, and fostering creative economies—including copyright, AI ethics, and climate-responsive cultural policies. It also highlights India’s continued role in promoting cultural diplomacy and the return of cultural property to countries of origin. The meeting welcomed the inclusion of Indonesia in the BRICS family and encouraged deeper collaboration through festivals, digital exhibitions, and cultural alliances. This engagement reflects India’s growing role in shaping a more inclusive, diverse, and cooperative global cultural landscape.
