Restoration of Centrally Protected Monuments Across India

As of July 2025, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) oversees the conservation and maintenance of 3,685 centrally protected monuments and sites nationwide. Periodic inspections are carried out to assess their condition, with restoration activities undertaken based on need and availability of resources. The Ministry of Culture confirmed that none of these heritage sites are in a dilapidated state, reflecting ASI’s consistent upkeep and preservation efforts.

In a recent written reply to the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat shared details of state-wise allocations and expenditures for conservation over the past five years. Notable allocations include ₹36.14 crore for Delhi in 2023–24 and consistent funding for heritage-rich states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The detailed report highlights the government’s sustained investment in preserving India's rich cultural legacy through the timely restoration and maintenance of historic monuments.
