Sohrai Art of Jharkhand Showcased at Rashtrapati Bhavan during Kala Utsav 2025

Sohrai Art, the indigenous mural tradition of Jharkhand, was prominently featured at the second edition of Kala Utsav 2025 – Artists in Residence Programme, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan from 14th to 24th July. The event was graced by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who commended the artists, stated that “these artworks reflect the soul of India.” Ten acclaimed Sohrai artists from Hazaribagh district participated and showcased the vibrant wall-painting tradition rooted in agrarian life, spirituality, and nature.

Organised in collaboration with IGNCA and its Regional Centre in Ranchi, the programme marked a significant step in giving national recognition to tribal art forms. IGNCA played a vital role in facilitating the participation of artists from remote villages, ensuring their work was honoured on a prestigious platform. The initiative reflects the Ministry of Culture’s ongoing commitment to preserving India’s folk and tribal heritage.
