Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya

Bihar

The Mahabodhi Temple Complex in Bodh Gaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the four most sacred places associated with the life of Lord Buddha. It marks the exact location where he attained enlightenment in 531 BC under the Bodhi Tree. Originally built by Emperor Asoka in the 3rd century BC, the current brick structure dates back to the 5th–6th century Gupta period. The complex includes the main temple, sacred spots of Buddha’s seven weeks of meditation, and the revered Bodhi Tree. It is a living symbol of Buddhist heritage, faith, and architectural brilliance.
