Red Fort Complex
New Delhi
The Red Fort Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built in the 17th century by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the palace fort of his new capital, Shahjahanabad. Enclosed by imposing red sandstone walls, it features a series of elegant pavilions linked by the Nahr-i-Behisht (Stream of Paradise). The fort’s architectural brilliance reflects a fusion of Persian, Timurid, and Hindu traditions, symbolising the peak of Mughal creativity. Adjacent to the older Salimgarh Fort, the complex showcases innovative planning and garden design that influenced later structures across India. It remains a powerful symbol of India's rich historical and cultural heritage.
